1 Chron 7-9

Chapters 7-9

Chapter 7

How refreshing it is to next read of Issachar and his descendants! (1).

His mother viewed him as a reward from Jehovah; his name means 'He is Wages'.

It reflects the way Leah came to conceive him, buying the conjugal right for that night from Rachel in return for some mandrakes.

He was Jacob's ninth son, and Issachar is named as ninth in the list of Spiritual Israel.

Issachar and his descendants displayed some wonderful qualities.

We don't know much about his life other than from the recorded events that he mutually participated in with his brothers. For example, in 1728 BCE, when he was around 41 years old, he and his sons went to Egypt, among the "seventy souls" who comprised Jacob's household.

On his father's deathbed, Issachar received his blessing.

We see his family line was prophesied to be willing workers for the common good, at times benefitting the whole nation.

They were praised by Barak and Deborah for their contribution to Israel's victory.

Commendably, the research notes say "The men of Issachar watched God's indications of what he wanted done at a certain time. So they gave David a military escort" when he became king over all Israel.

These were men of faith, and men of action, who had "a knowledge of how to discern the times".

Moses also spoke well of this tribe. He said "Issachar would rejoice in their tents". Deut 33:18.

They would have reason to rejoice:

Issachar was the fourth tribe to receive its land, in the fertile valley of Jezreel. The Insight book says this was a "choice " and "pleasant" land, and the people of Issachar were evidently well content with what Jehovah had given them.

Tola, one of Issachar's descendants, was a judge in Israel for 23 years ( not to be confused with with Issachar's son in vs 1).

The men of Issachar are called mighty warriors in vs 5.

John 14:11

John 14:11 -- Believe me that I am in union with the Father and the Father is in union with me; otherwise, believe because of the works themselves

Overall Thoughts

I am one of those people who is anxious about everything. Although | am praying for the end of this system of things everyday, on bad days there are definitely times when I think to myself and wonder whether my faith will be strong enough to carry me through the war of Armageddon and the attack of Gog of Magog, so these little reminders have been so helpful and comforting to me, reminding me that when I feel overwhelmed with anxiety and doubt to just keep exercising faith in Jehovah, learning from areas where I need to strengthen my faith, remembering that my faith grows stronger with each test I pass and challenge I endure, and that strong faith will help me face the future with more confidence.

2Cor 12:10

2Cor 12:10 -- So I take pleasure in weaknesses, in insults, in times of need, in persecutions and difficulties, for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am powerful

Overall Thoughts

The words of encouragement found in the Bible to the apostle Paul and Timothy and how he helped them to continue serving him despite their problems and situations, are recorded in for our benefit too and they are so empowering and comforting to read, especially for ones in the truth that are perhaps experiencing trials and circumstances out of their control, they could be living in a country where the preaching work is restricted or banned.

Some brothers and sisters could be suffering from long term ill health in someway or age concerns.

These things can bring on a sense of worthlessness and become disheartened because you are limited to what you can do in the terms of ministry, however regardless of what struggles we are facing, Jehovah will empower us and give us the strength to cope with these challenges, acknowledging that God's power is "made perfect in weakness." A "power beyond what is normal".

Luke 1:78

Luke 1:78 -- because of the tender compassion of our God.
With this compassion a daybreak will visit us from on high

Overall Thoughts

We enjoy being apart our this loving and united family of brothers and sisters from all cultures and backgrounds, our love for one another is what sets us apart from the world. However while living in this system of things and being imperfect humans, we are sure to all make mistakes that can upset others and we sometimes might not always find it easy to feel love towards our brothers and sisters for one reason or another.

However by imitating Jehovah and his tender compassion we can learn to see past and overcome this and provide love, comfort and help to our spiritual family.

Remembering that Jehovah is merciful and forgiving therefore we too can strengthen the bond of love in our spiritual family when we are "freely forgiving", although it we know it can be hard at times to forgive, we need to keep working on it, letting go of resentment and maintaining our own peace.

1 Chronicles 3:19

Just a bit further to the info on who was Shealtiel's father, an couple of older QFRs adds:

A careful comparison of Matthew 1:1-16 with Luke 3:23-38 shows that Matthew gave the lineage of Jesus Christ through Solomon, whereas Luke gave it through Nathan, another son of David. Why, then, do both genealogies list Shealtiel and Zerubbabel?

Luke did not err in indicating that Shealtiel was “the son of Neri.” (Luke 3:27) Apparently this was true, because Neri gave his daughter to Shealtiel in marriage. Since it was not uncommon for the Hebrews to refer to a son-in-law as a son, and especially so in genealogical listings, Luke could properly refer to Shealtiel as the son of Neri, just as he had already referred to Joseph as the son of Heli, who was actually the father of Joseph’s wife, Mary.—Luke 3:23.

Hence, it was through such a marital union that the family line of David through Nathan merged with the line through Solomon. This would also account for the fact that both Matthew and Luke mention Shealtiel’s son Zerubbabel. Eventually, through different descendants of Zerubbabel, the two family lines again took separate courses in leading to Jesus Christ.

https://wol.jw.org/en/wol/library/r1/lp-e/all-publications/watchtower/the-watchtower-1966/june-15

Unlike Matthew, Luke mentions no women directly. This suggests that women may be understood in the line of descent, in which case their husbands would be merely the sons-in-law and not the direct sons of the previous man in the line of descent.

Psalm 107:43

"Whoever is wise will observe these things
And will carefully consider Jehovah’s acts of loyal love."

Overall Thoughts

Loyal love is "love motivated by commitment, integrity, loyalty and deep attachment.. this love is another of Jehovah's finest qualities to which he is abundant in, it is mentioned 26 times in book of Psalms and occurs some 230 times in the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures, where we read how Jehovah shows loyal love time and time again and we are assured that God's love for his people does not change "for his loyal love endures forever".

It brings so much comfort to us knowing that Jehovah will not simply give up on us quickly, he sticks by us, especially when we are struggling and gives us the strength to cope so we can keep serving him joyfully and keep walking on the path to life. He takes such delight in expressing his loyal love to his faithful servants and warmly encourages us to do the same.

1 Chron 1:32

Abraham second wife, after Sarah, was Ke-tu'rah. .

She bore Abraham had six more children, after Jehovah had revived his reproductive powers. That miracle was not temporary, because he still had the ability to reproduce 40 years later.

The February 1979 Watchtower said this was a "restoration of living cells, so it was comparable to a resurrection" and that it illustrates that nothing is impossible for Jehovah, and "provides assurance regarding the certainty of the resurrection hope".

The Wives of David

Personal study project

David had 8 wives may be more, plus concubines. Of those 8 named wives, Bathsheba appears to be the last. She was David's great sin against the law of Jehovah. Yet Jehovah chose her two son's of David to lead the genealogy leading to the Messiah.

Solomon as the kingly (legal) line through to Joseph and though his brother Nathan as the line of the promised seed from Adam leading to Mary.

Only too often the descendants of Solomon's who were Kings of Judah after the nation's split disappointed Jehovah by their rebellion and worshipped pagan God's, Jehovah stuck rigidly to that Kingly line as long as they had King's. He kept His promise to David.
The list of genealogy is in Matthew chapter 1.

We really do not know much about the line of the promised seed from Nathan leading to Mary. Somehow Jehovah kept that line going through as the book of Luke chapter 3 shows.

Bible Land Tours

Honestly, I have found that following this unique presentation presentation of tour's through Bible Lands most stimulating.

David and Desiree's presentation of places they visit is genius. So often I have desired to have a transcript of their explanation of where they are and what happened there.

I could write a book 'Opening the mind of the Traveller, Travelling Through Bible Lands'  with their Transcripts.  Too long? Maybe! But exactly what happens to me each place I visit with them.

No not physically. I'm a couch traveller. Perhaps I should add 'Couch' into the title of my would be book.

I started this off with the word 'honestly' and we should all, always be honest. If you are not a follower and have not watched an episode, take the advantage of watching the free episodes on their website.

Then let me know why your are impressed by their distinctive presentation.

Midheaven Angels

Revelation describes a fascinating scene: angels in midheaven supporting the preaching work. Isn't that encouraging?

When tired or discouraged in the ministry just look to the sky, where the birds fly, and be sure that up above at least one angel is supporting you.

Taste and see

. . . that Jehovah is good.
Psalm 34:8

Jehovah is the Source of all goodness. He provides all the good
things for everyone. Even for wicked and undeserving people.

But mainly he takes joy in expressing his goodness to his servants.
Those good and faithful worshippers.

We can learn all about Jehovah's goodness when we the read the Bible
and hear brothers and sisters talk about all the blessings they have
received from Jehovah.

But we cannot describe just how it feels to 'taste' his goodness personally.

Jehovah is so awesome and kind.

When we put Jehovah and his Kingdom interests first, Jehovah
will always provide us with the things we really need.

1 Chron 3:17, 18

In Babylon many cuneiform tablets were uncovered relating to King Nebuchadnezzar’s reign.

One known as "The Jehoiachin Ration Tablet" lists of the names of captives then living in Babylon to whom provisions were given.

Five of Jehoiachin's seven sons listed in verses 17, 18 are named in this tablet, and so once again archaeology confirms the authenticity of the Bible.

Only The Bible Can Transform You

Hebrews 4:12 (NWT)

Diseased Tree

For a forest to be green each tree must be green. A forest can be made up of all sorts of different trees with various shades and hues of green. If we could look down on the forest a diseased tree would stand out.

It's the same in the congregation - if we are easily offended, harbour resentment and are not peacemakers we stand out-  if not to the congregation then certainly to Jehovah.

We could be like that diseased tree and if not treated (by applying what we learn) we could die spiritually.

1 Chronicles 1-3

The first 3 chapters of 1 Chronicles lists at least 56 ancestors of Jesus Christ. The first one is Adam (1 Chronicles 1:1) and the last one is Zerubbabel (1 Chronicles 3:19 )

Lesson for us.

Ezra himself had a notable genealogy, he was an Aaronic priest, descended from Eleazar and Phinehas, and from the high priest Seraiah who was executed by Nebuchadnezzar.

The Insight book says " he exhibited unusual zeal in searching the official documents of his nation, and it is evidently due to his efforts that we have the accurate record Chronicles gives us...he had God's spirit..and...God guided him with a view to preserving a great portion of Israel's history ".

Later historians such as Josephus and Luke have much to thank Ezra for, and we can be grateful for his painstaking care in compiling these records.

Can Faith Die?

The picture depicts the Roman shield. The apostle Paul refereed to the size of the shield carried by a foot soldier liking it to the quality of faith.
Please read Ephesians 6:16. "Besides all of this, take up the large shield of faith, with which you will be able to extinguish all the wicked one’s burning arrows."
Like the shield, or faith will only work if it is well maintained.

Need of Food

How often do we need physical food?

Every day!

Taking in spiritual food daily is even more important because it affects our prospects for eternal  life. ( John 17:3 NWT).

Fill your mind with God's Word and you will have no room for Satan's lies.

"Happy is the man... whose delight is in the

law of Jehovah, and in his law, he reads in an

undertone day and night." (Psalm 1:1, 2 NWT)

The Bible does not state specifically how often we ought to read it. However, it does record  Jehovah's counsel to Joshua to 'read in the book of the law in an undertone day and night' so that he would act wisely and have success in carrying out his God-given assignment. (Joshua 1:8 NWT).

How to Freeze Milk

With difficult times ahead for all, a few tips are available to help you along your way.

You can freeze milk in its original plastic container or paper carton. However, because milk expands when it freezes, you will need to remove an inch or more milk from a full container to allow for this expansion.

What Does 666 Mean?

The Bible's answer

According to the last book in the Bible, 666 is the number, or name, of the wild beast with seven heads and ten horns that comes out of the sea.(Revelation 13:1, 17, 18)

This beast is a symbol of the worldwide political system, which rules over "every tribe and people and tongue and nation"- -(Revelation 13:7)

The name 666 identifies the political system as a gross failure in God's sight. How?

More than a label. Names given by God have meaning. For example, God gave the man Abram, which means "Father Is High (Exalted), the name Abraham, which means "Father of a Crowd (Multitude)" when God promised that He would make Abraham "'a father of many nations." -(Genesis 17:5, footnotes) Likewise, God named the beast 666 as a symbol of its defining attributes.-(Genesis 17:5, footnotes)

Daniel 2:44

It's not about political parties, racial problems, nationality, wealth or poverty.

It's about God's Kingdom putting an end to all these things.

"He will also enter into the land of the Decoration" -Dan. 11:41.(NWT)

Now is the time to strengthen your trust in Jehovah. It is time to build trust in an organization of people who serve Jehovah. It's time to support God's Kingdom. If we do so, we will be saved when God's Kingdom destroys the northern and southern kings.

Abraham's Commission

Genesis 21:22-24:27

Abraham was a very wealthy man with great flocks and herds, much silver and gold, and a very large household numbering many hundreds of servants. (Ge 24:35 NWT).

For this reason the kings of Canaan considered him a powerful "chieftain" and one with whom covenants of peace should be made. (Ge 23:6; 21:22, 23 NWT). Yet at no time did Abraham allow materialism to blind his vision of Jehovah and His promises or cause him to become proud, high-minded, or selfish.

Abraham commissioned his servant to travel to the country of Abraham's relatives to find a wife for his son Isaac. The mission was difficult, but the servant was assured that Jehovah's angel would guide him.

It is after the death of his beloved wife Sarah that Abraham makes arrangements to procure a wife for his son Isaac, now about 40 years old. Not wanting his son to become yoked with a non-worshiper of Jehovah, Abraham asks his household manager, most likely his faithful servant Eliezer, to travel all the way to upper Mesopotamia.

He gives his servant no special instructions to guide him. The angel of Jehovah will do that, Abraham confidently states. He trusts that the Most High somehow will single out from  among his relatives a suitable maiden for Isaac. (Gen. 24:1-9 NWT).
