The Wives of David

Personal study project

David had 8 wives may be more, plus concubines. Of those 8 named wives, Bathsheba appears to be the last. She was David's great sin against the law of Jehovah. Yet Jehovah chose her two son's of David to lead the genealogy leading to the Messiah.

Solomon as the kingly (legal) line through to Joseph and though his brother Nathan as the line of the promised seed from Adam leading to Mary.

Only too often the descendants of Solomon's who were Kings of Judah after the nation's split disappointed Jehovah by their rebellion and worshipped pagan God's, Jehovah stuck rigidly to that Kingly line as long as they had King's. He kept His promise to David.
The list of genealogy is in Matthew chapter 1.

We really do not know much about the line of the promised seed from Nathan leading to Mary. Somehow Jehovah kept that line going through as the book of Luke chapter 3 shows.

The reason for the research was that I find it interesting how Jehovah used these two sons of Bathsheba and not two from any of the other wives. It shows that Jehovah has great mercy and forgives in a large way.  This mercy we should also show to repentant sinners who return to Jehovah.

Preparing for 1 Chronicles 1-3 for our weekly meeting was an eye-opener. I have learned so much more regarding  the wives of David. Not only their names, but also the names of their sons.

It was interesting to see that Bathsheba had 4 sons from Chapter 3:5.
